Volume XIV #2
February 2010

Crumbs from my jar . . .

And how is your winter going? Are you digging out in the Northeast or going through umbrellas out on the west coast? I just know we've had more snow in Oklahoma in all the years I've lived here. So I stay home, since I don't like to drive my sporty car out in the bad weather and plan to do a lot of organizing. Ahem.... that doesn't always work, I've become addicted to Scrabble and Words with Friends games. I probably need to go cold turkey for a few days so that I can actually accomplish anything (starting to shake and get nervous just typing that!).

~FEBRUARY CALENDAR PAGE~
The February Cookie Jar page has been up and I actually got a little ahead of myself and did the March pages too. Print that off now and stick it behind the February page.

I've been asked if there is a program for doing the calendar. Not really. I grab the month template from another About site and other than that I do the calendar in Photoshop, occasionally using some clip art. Do you have a special jar you would like to see highlighted for an upcoming month? Let me know and perhaps I can work it in. No promises.

~TOBACCO JAR OR COOKIE JAR?~
Ever seen a jar listed on eBay as a cookie jar that had you scratching your head? And even after perusing your extensive library of cookie jar books you still couldn't identify the jar? More than likely, the jar you were looking at was a humidor or tobacco jar, as they are more commonly known.

~EXTREME HOME MAKEOVER~
I didn't catch the show, but saw a Google alert that mentioned "cookie jar collection". Apparently the lady of the house has a cookie jar collection, but nothing was said during the episode. Or at least nothing I heard while watching it online. I did see a few jars as they scanned the "after" kitchen, as well as the jar that according to an article, Reese Witherspoon gave the owner of the house. The jar is also shown in the picture gallery along with the article.

Note: episode can be watched online via the Extreme Home Makeover web site.

~MCCOY LOVERS NMXPress~
It's the end of an era. During the golden age of cookie jar collecting, the McCoy Lovers' NMXpress was an essential publication for McCoy pottery and cookie jar collectors. Unfortunately the printed publication will no longer be available.

After 13 years of publication, the final issue of the McCoy Lovers' NMXpress newsletter was mailed last month. The monthly newsletter, written and published by husband-and-wife team Carol Seman and Dan Eggert, has reached the end of its run.

Here are a few threads from the past week:

FROM LAST MONTH'S NEWSLETTER
Alan Rhodes Jars
It's amazing what a Christmas present can do -- in the case of Brian and Gary, it opened new doors as they discovered a new artist. A friend of theirs gave them a jar and wanted to be sure it was one they didn't already have. Believe me they didn't! But they immediately fell in love and now have at least one more jar by Alan Rhodes. I say at least because by the time this newsletter goes out, that collection has probably increased several times. The Triceratops is the one that started it all, but I can see jars in several of my friend's futures. The Hippo for my hippo collecting readers, I love the Buffalo Wings and the Horse is more than cute. The Dragon jar is absolutely amazing and Brian thinks that's where Alan will make his niche.

COLLECTOR LIST
No I haven't forgotten about this, I am still getting emails from the December newsletter, guess some folks don't read their emails as soon as they arrive. ~vbg~
