Crumbs from my jar . . .

I know this is a few days late this month, but one thing I've learned from doing email and Internet newsletters for over 13 years is -- almost no one reads them during the holidays. Almost no one! If you do, you and I are among the very few that checks and reads email during those times. So, I decided to take a break and wait a few days.

Many of the links below go to the Collectibles Forum and before you groan, it doesn't take long to register to make a comment. And you don't have to be registered to be in the read-only mode. As an added incentive I will come up with a really cool gift for one of the cookie jar posters in the month of January. Make a comment and you'll be automatically entered. So join the forums and join in on the conversations..

Like many of you know (and are in the same boat I am) sometimes I feel overwhelmed by collections taking over. Because of eBay prices being so darn low, I only will put jars on eBay that are worth more than $150. (my arbitrary figure) and my starting price may not be $100., but I am not planning to give them away for $20. - $30. It's just not worth it with the packing, fees, etc. My solution? Right now I am culling out my collection by giving away jars! I had a Bunko party at my home in August and gave away 15 jars, went to a work lunch and gave away another six or seven jars, but the biggest one was our Christmas Open House. Over 50 Christmas jars were given away! It's fun, I've started lots of folks on their way to actually wanting to collect jars, I wouldn't have gotten much for the ones I did give away, athough their book values were anywhere from $10 - $75. But the pleasure and fun of seeing folks deciding what jar they wanted was worth it all.

What about you? Do you have a solution for downsizing your jars?

COLLECTOR LIST
I was pleasantly surprised at how many folks I heard from about the Collector List I proposed doing. I'll start working on it this month, but in case you missed the note or failed to respond, it's not too late. Read last month's newsetter for all the details.

ANY COOKIE JARS FOR CHRISTMAS?
Cookiemonstr99 started a fun thread on the forums -- so join in the fun and tell us what you got for Christmas, jar-wise or otherwise. I got a great jar from a good friend, but I'm not telling you what I got. You have to read it there.

~JANUARY CALENDAR PAGE~
The January Cookie Jar page has been up for about a week, if you haven't seen it yet, take a peek. The other months will be put up as time permits, but always before the month needed. Of course it's a snowman, but which one do you think it is? A very simple one from 2000.

Alan Rhodes Jars
It's amazing what a Christmas present can do -- in the case of Brian and Gary, it opened new doors as they discovered a new artist. A friend of theirs gave them a jar and wanted to be sure it was one they didn't already have. Believe me they didn't! But they immediately fell in love and now have at least one more jar by Alan Rhodes. I say at least because by the time this newsletter goes out, that collection has probably increased several times.

The Triceratops is the one that started it all, but I can see jars in several of my friend's futures. The Hippo for my hippo collecting readers, I love the Buffalo Wings and the Horse is more than cute. The Dragon jar is absolutely amazing and Brian thinks that's where Alan will make his niche.

~WORLD'S BIGGEST OREO (cake)~
Well I did my best to make the cake from this pan from Williams Sonoma. It tasted great, but getting it out of the pan was a real adventure. Will I try again? Probably . . Lots of folks remarked on how cute it was!

~HAKE'S AUCTIONS~
Hake's is a favorite spot to check out for unusual stuff, mostly pop culture items. I have bought a few cookie jars from them and really tempted this month. Four jars are available, two very hard to find ones. The Coachman jar from Brayton Laguna and the rarer of the two Donald Duck jars from Shaw. Bidding ends January 21.

~DISNEY JARS~
Larger standing Donald with film canisters has always been one of my favorite newer Donald Duck jars, it's been around for a couple of years, but Disney only puts it on their ite sporadically. It's on sale for $20. bucks and it's HUGE! Also on sale is the newer sorcerer Mickey jar.

~COOKIE JAR TRIVIA ON THE FORUMS~
I know, I know -- raising my hand furiously! But I'll let someone else answer first. Cookiejarman asked a cookie jar trivia question on the forums -- do you know the answer. It involves S & H Green Stamps.

~FAKE COOKIE JARS ON EBAY~
As Buzz Lightyear would say, the list goes to Infinity and Beyond, but unfortuntely they can't all be listed. Here a few of the more interesting fakes on eBay. Have a question about a jar on eBay? Ask on the Forums!
