Crumbs from my jar . . .

I've been too excited about some new jars and projects to wait until the end of the month, so I decided a mid-month newsletter was in order! Instead of getting too long winded in this section, I'll save my talking for below.

until next time,

~DON/TWIN WINTON~
If you've been reading the newsletter over the past few months you know that I've mentioned Norma Winton was selling some of the pieces from both their collection and from Don's Studio. If the pieces weren't finished, son Craig is doing the finish work. Well, Winton pottery has become hot lately. Prices have been going up across the board and the limited edition pieces she has been selling have done quite well.

I was actually a little embarrassed when I realized I didn't have an actual gallery for Twin Winton/Don Winton items. I had articles and lists scattered around, but nothing that was easy to find. It's all good now. I created a list of Winton articles and a gallery of Winton pieces. There is a LOT MORE to do and I would really appreciate pictures you might have of either the Wintons at cookie jar shows and any Twin or Don Winton works. I also know that I have a picture of "Winton's Last Jar" from Portland, but cannot find it. Do you have a picture of the event or jar?

~FAKES ON EBAY~
This problem has been ongoing for as many years as eBay has been in existence. I know when I bought my very first jar on eBay, a California Original Count, I was worried it was a fake until I actually had the jar in my hands. There is an ongoing thread on the Collectibles Forums about cookie jar fakes. Brian is doing a terrific job with it, but it would be great if others could pop in and add their sightings as well. OR if you have a question stop by and ask a question - we'll do our best to help out.

~FIRST JAR ON EBAY~
The above comment got me thinking about starting out on eBay - so I've started a new thread in the forums. What is the jar that started you out collecting on eBay? You probably already were collecting jars, but do you remember the first jar you purchased on eBay. Were you happy with the purchase. Tell us your story! Mine was back in the dinosaur days of the Internet -- August 1996.

~TREASURE CRAFT~
This is another series I've been working on this week. I'd appreciate any pictures, stories and prices you might have to share about Treasure Craft. Treasure Craft jars have been consistently some of the best produced over the years and I still feel like it's one of the most underappreciated American potteries. I rarely hear of anyone saying "I collect Treasure Craft" and have to wonder, why not?

~THREE NEW JARS~
Three new (to me) jars have shown up over the past few weeks.

NY Times Crossword Puzzle Jar
Well, I was so excited about this jar until Nancy A. burst my bubble and told me she's had one for quite a while. Hummph. Well she doesn't have this one. Apparently an earlier version (or two?) has been available in the past years. The 2009 version is a limited edition jar - 1000 made -- and has new puzzles on it. Comes with a marker and eraser to to complete the puzzle.

Ballerina Penguin
This is another limited edition jar, or perhaps I should say exclusive jar. It's only carried by Neiman Marcus and is shown in a current catalog. I'm not quite sure about this one - it's most likely a must for Penguin collectors, but it's a bit of strange one. Perhaps the fact that it is a Krinkles jar explains it all.

Sorcerer Mickey
A new Mickey Mouse jar showed up on the Disney site - it has a small figure of Mickey standing on top of the jar. Again not one of my favorite Disney jars. We're still waiting for a Cars (movie) jar. Gallery Link
