Dateline: March 2001* |

It was a Saturday morning and although we usually go our separate ways in the morning -- this time I invited my
husband out to breakfast. He was a little surprised and asked where are we going? Oh, just around the corner to a
place we haven't been to in a while!
Not too far from our house is Lake Overholser-- the oldest reservoir in Oklahoma. There is only one place to
eat on the Lake, the Rt. 66 Cookie Jar Cafe and Bait House! Actually, it used to be called
Herb's, as you can tell from the signs, but it has recently changed owners and we were off to check it out.

Inside not too much had changed, some new paint, curtains and of course the addition of cookie jars all over
the place. It was really fun to check them out in such an incongruous place. The air was thick with smoke
and most of the customers appeared to be fishermen -- but there were the cookie jars!
There were probably three - four dozen jars scattered around, mostly inexpensive colorful jars, although I did spot one
or two that are a bit harder to find.

It's a popular place for the area and only holds about ten or twelve tables that were almost all occupied.
The counter was occupied too, with both diners and cookie jars.
The menu was a typical one for breakfast time-- eggs, hashbrowns, biscuits, etc. The breakfast was
quickly delivered, the food was good and inexpensive.
Yes, that is a minnow tank (full) right behind me!

Robert is figuring out how he can sell the owner my collection.
As the Collectibles Guide on About, it is certainly my job to check out different places that showcase or
display different collectibles. In fact, I have traveled far and wide to find out more about collectors,
new products and museums. It was a special treat to find this spot only about one mile from our house.
Next time you are in my part of the woods-- come by, I'll take you to lunch!
*Unfortunately this place has closed down and the building has changed to a completely different business.
